This tutorial will tell you how to create a new Standard EXE
project. The Standard EXE project allows you to create an application,
which can be compiled into a .exe file. The .exe file then can be
distributed using the Package & Deployment Wizard, which creates a setup
program for your application. There are few limits in the types of
programs you can make with Visual Basic 6.0 - from a simple notepad program to a
program, which controls stock for a whole supermarket for example. Here is
how to start a Standard EXE Project in Visual Basic 6.0:
1. Open Visual Basic 6.0 - it should be on your start menu if
you have just installed it (Programs -> Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 ->
Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0)
2. The 'New Project' dialog box will appear:
The New Project dialog box
3. Click on 'Standard EXE', then click Open
4. On the Project Explorer window (which should be in the top
right of the screen), click on the top left icon, which is 'View Code':
The Project Explorer
5. The code window will appear:
The Code window
6. You are now ready to start a new project. Tip:
double-click on the form and type in between the two lines ('Private Sub
Form_Load' and 'End Sub'). This code will be executed as soon as the
program starts.

The 'OCXs Used' column in the 'My
Programs' table lists what OCX files the program uses. E.g.
the Image Tile Viewer program requires files 'A' and 'D', which
correspond to Allen OCX and Common Controls in the
'OCX and Runtime Files' table.
Hello,
I have created a vb6 application some time ago, but unfortunately I have deleted the source code by accident. Can I extract it from the .exe file?
Reply:
Unfortunately, you cannot extract source code from a compiled .exe
file (which is called decompiling). See these posts from my old Visual
Basic 6.0 Forum for the reasons why:

Dear,Mr Nirmal,Can you help me to guide me to how my visual basic in step by step?
I have recently purchased VB6 Professional, having used the deluxe learning edition up until then.
I compiled in the Professional edition an application that was created, for the most part, in the student edition.
When I attempt to share the application with someone who is running Windows 95, 98 and even NT, a missing .dll error comes up and prevents the application from being run completely.
What to do?
Reply:
In order to be able to run a compiled program on a computer, which
doesn't have Visual Basic 6.0 installed, you will need to install the Visual
Basic 6.0 Runtime files (1.01 MB) first to get your program to work.
